The determination of technologies was based on a structured process of consultation, which was organized by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology and was attended by business representatives, professional associations, universities, research centers, ministries, regions, etc. These technologies are expected to cause structural changes (e.g. modernization, diversification, etc.), improve competitiveness, and affect other sectors of the economy as well. These technologies were selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Significant impact on the economy and ability of leveraging private investment in research and innovation
  • International market existence
  • Availability of public and/or private research assistants
  • Creating jobs (long-term)
  • Other effects (e.g. environmental, social).
